Mesa Arizona Temple: A Desert Oasis of Faith

The Mesa Arizona Temple stands as a testament to faith and community in the East Valley. Announced in 1919 and dedicated in 1927, it was the first temple built in Arizona and the ninth operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For Latter-day Saints in Arizona, the temple provided a sacred space closer to home, ending the arduous journey to the St. George Utah Temple via the 'Honeymoon Trail' for temple ordinances.The temple's architecture, inspired by Solomon's Temple and ancient religious structures of the Americas, features a neoclassical design with strong horizontal lines and buff-colored terra cotta. Unlike many other temples, it does not have a spire topped by an angel. The grounds are meticulously landscaped, providing a lush contrast to the surrounding desert. The temple has undergone several renovations throughout its history, including significant remodeling in the 1970s and a major renovation completed in 2021.
