Powell Museum & Visitor Center: Gateway to Glen Canyon History

The Powell Museum & Visitor Center acts as a portal to the rich history and culture of the Glen Canyon region. The museum is dedicated to Major John Wesley Powell, the explorer who led the first U.S. government expedition down the Green and Colorado rivers through the Grand Canyon in 1869.The museum houses interpretive exhibits, historic collections, and archives related to the Colorado River, Glen Canyon Dam, and the city of Page. Exhibits also cover geology, paleontology, and the cultural history of the area. Visitors can explore artifacts, photographs, and displays that narrate the stories of the indigenous peoples and their connection to the land. The museum also features a visitor information center with maps and resources about local attractions, hiking trails, and outdoor activities.The building itself has historical significance, originally serving as a concrete testing lab for the construction of Glen Canyon Dam. Today, it hosts the museum's collections, archives, and exhibits. The museum also partners with the Page Public Library and Glen Canyon Natural History Association to host the Glen Canyon Lecture Series at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center at Glen Canyon Dam.
