Apache Wash Trailhead: Sonoran Desert Escape

Escape the city at the Apache Wash Trailhead, your gateway to the northern reaches of the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve. Opened in 2013, this well-maintained trailhead provides access to over 36 miles of trails winding through a diverse Sonoran Desert landscape.The trails here cater to various skill levels, from easy, flat paths to moderate climbs. The popular Apache Wash Loop is a relatively easy 5.6-mile dirt trail, favored by mountain bikers. For a short, scenic detour, take the spur to Apache Vista for panoramic views stretching to Scottsdale and beyond.Keep an eye out for the diverse plant life, including saguaros, prickly pear, and barrel cacti. Springtime visitors are often treated to vibrant displays of wildflowers like poppies and lupines. The area also supports a variety of desert wildlife, so be alert and respectful of your surroundings.Remember to bring plenty of water, as there is no potable water available at the trailhead. Vault toilets and ample parking are provided for your convenience. Be aware that the parking area gates close at 7 p.m., and trails close at 11 p.m.
