Table Top Wilderness: A Sonoran Desert Gem

Table Top Wilderness, managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), offers a unique opportunity to experience the solitude and beauty of the Sonoran Desert. The wilderness is defined by its namesake, Table Top Mountain, a prominent flat-topped peak that serves as a recognizable landmark in the region.The area's rugged terrain includes steep mesas, ridges, lava flows, and wide canyons, all carved by the forces of erosion over millennia. The vegetation is characteristic of the Sonoran Desert, featuring saguaro cactus forests, palo verde trees, ironwood, bursage, and creosote bush. This diverse plant life supports a variety of wildlife, including desert bighorn sheep, coyotes, quail, javelina, and various reptiles and birds.Visitors can explore the wilderness on foot via two established trails. The most popular is the 4-mile Table Top Trail, which leads to the summit of Table Top Mountain. This challenging hike rewards adventurers with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding desert landscape.
