Public Bus
To reach New River Trail W in Peoria, AZ from Tempe, start at the Tempe Transit Center located at 200 E 5th St, Tempe, AZ 85281. Take Valley Metro Bus Route 1 heading north. Stay on the bus for approximately 35 minutes. You will need to transfer at the 19th Ave/Peoria Ave stop. Here, switch to Bus Route 83 heading west. After about 15 minutes, get off at the 83rd Ave & Peoria Ave stop. From there, walk approximately 10 minutes north on 83rd Ave, then take a right onto New River Trail W. The trail entrance will be on your left.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from a nearby rental shop in Tempe. Start at the Tempe Town Lake and head north on the bike path. Follow the signs to connect to the Western Canal Path, which will lead you toward Peoria. It’s a scenic route, and you’ll bike for about an hour and a half (approximately 11 miles). Once you get to Peoria, follow the bike lanes to New River Trail W. Enjoy the ride and the beautiful Arizona scenery!
Walking
Walking to New River Trail W from Tempe is quite long, about 12 miles, but if you enjoy hiking, you can take a scenic route. Start at the Tempe Town Lake and head northwest through the neighborhoods. Follow local streets to connect to the Arizona Canal Path. The path will take you north for a scenic walk. Once you reach Peoria Avenue, head west until you reach 83rd Ave. Then, walk north about 10 minutes to find the entrance to New River Trail W.
