Getting There

  • Walking

    From the ASU Tempe campus, walk towards the Moeur Building, located at 201 Orange Mall. Head south on Lemon Street until you reach University Drive, then turn left. Walk east on University Drive until you reach Orange Mall. Turn right, and the Mars Space Flight Facility will be on your left.

  • Public Transport

    From downtown Tempe, walk to the nearest bus stop at Mill Avenue & 3rd Street. Take Valley Metro Bus Route 72 eastbound. After about 15 minutes, get off at the University Drive & Rural Road stop. Transfer to Bus Route 481 or Route 30. Get off at the Orange Mall stop. A single ride on Valley Metro bus is $2.

  • Parking

    Several parking options are available near the Mars Space Flight Facility. Gammage Lot 3 offers parking at $3 per hour, up to $15 per day. The Myrtle Avenue Structure T and Apache Boulevard Structure A charge $4 for one hour or less, with a maximum of $16 per day. Lot 99 and Lot 13 offer parking at $3 per hour, with a maximum of $6 a day with a 2-hour limit. Pay stations require your license plate number.

Located on the ASU Tempe campus, the Mars Space Flight Facility is a hub for cutting-edge research on the Red Planet. Scientists, researchers, and students use data from instruments on Mars spacecraft to study the planet's geology and mineral composition. The facility plays a vital role in NASA's Mars Exploration Program. The facility is housed in the Moeur Building, the only adobe structure on ASU's campus, which was originally built in 1939 as a women's gymnasium. Inside the building's lobby, visitors can see a full-size model of the Mars rover Opportunity. While guided tours are not always available, the facility occasionally hosts information sessions and public events. The Mars Education Program, also housed here, offers workshops and field trips for students and teachers. ASU has a long-standing relationship with NASA, building cameras for Mars rovers, spectrometers for asteroid analysis, and small satellites.
