Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, start by navigating to South Mountain Park in Phoenix. From Yavapai County, take I-17 S toward Phoenix. Merge onto I-10 E and continue until you reach the exit for 24th St. Take the exit toward South Mountain Park. Follow signs for South Mountain Park and continue straight until you reach the main entrance. Once inside, follow the park road toward the Scorpion Gulch parking area. There is ample parking available. Note that there may be a small entrance fee to the park, so be prepared for that.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Scorpion Gulch by public transportation, first take a bus from your location in Yavapai County to Phoenix. You can use Greyhound or local bus services like Valley Metro. Once in Phoenix, take the Valley Metro Light Rail to the 24th St. and Washington stop. From there, you will need to catch a local bus that goes to South Mountain Park. Check the Valley Metro website for the most current bus routes and schedules. Be aware that public transportation may require transfers and may take longer than driving directly.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, consider biking to Scorpion Gulch. You can start your journey from anywhere in Yavapai County, but ensure you have a good route mapped out. Use local bike trails that lead toward Phoenix and ensure you have a safe route to South Mountain Park. Once you reach the park, you can find bike racks at the Scorpion Gulch area for secure parking. Bring plenty of water and snacks as the ride can be strenuous, especially in warmer months.

• Walking/Hiking

  If you're already in the vicinity of South Mountain Park and prefer to hike, you can enter the park on foot from nearby trails. Once inside, make your way to the Scorpion Gulch area by following the marked trails. It’s a historical landmark, so there are signs to guide you. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear and carry water, especially during warmer months.
