The vision of Justin Matthews, a local developer, the Old Mill was intended to be an attraction that would encourage buyers to his new development. The Old Mill is more than just a pretty picture; it's an art installation featuring the work of Mexican sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez, who used a technique called faux bois to create concrete sculptures that resemble wood. These sculptures, including toadstools, tree stumps, and a unique tree branch-entwined bridge, add to the park's whimsical charm. The mill itself contains relics from the 1800s, including a grist mill dating back to 1828.The Old Mill gained fame after being featured in the opening credits of the 1939 film 'Gone With the Wind' and is believed to be the only remaining structure from the film. Today, the Old Mill is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike, offering a peaceful retreat and a beautiful backdrop for photographs. The park is open from 8:00 AM until sunset and is free to the public.
