The Old Mill, situated in North Little Rock's T.R. Pugh Memorial Park, is a charming replica of an 1880s water-powered grist mill. Completed in 1933, it was designed by Justin Matthews to evoke the feel of an abandoned 19th-century mill, a tribute to Arkansas's pioneer heritage. The mill gained fame for its appearance in the opening scenes of the iconic 1939 film, 'Gone With the Wind'. It is believed to be the only remaining structure from the movie.The park is adorned with the artistry of Dionicio Rodriguez, a Mexican sculptor renowned for his faux bois technique, which uses reinforced concrete to mimic wood. Rodriguez's sculptures, including tree stumps, toadstools, benches, and a distinctive tree branch-entwined bridge, enhance the park's rustic charm. The level of detail makes the concrete appear as natural wood, iron, or stone.Inside the mill, you'll find remnants of Arkansas's past, including an 1828 grist mill from Pope County and millstones dating back to 1823 and 1840. Two original milestones, dating back over 150 years from a road laid out by Jefferson Davis, are also on display. In 2019, a cascading waterfall was added to turn the mill's wheel.The Old Mill is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, offering a tranquil escape and a beautiful setting for photography.
