Discover more about Blue Spring Heritage Center

Blue Spring Heritage Center, located a short drive from Eureka Springs, Arkansas, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance. The centerpiece is Blue Spring, one of the largest natural springs in Arkansas, gushing 38 million gallons of water daily into a trout-filled lagoon before flowing into the White River. The spring's mesmerizing blue color and the surrounding landscape create a serene and picturesque setting. Visitors can explore the center's 33 acres, which include native plant gardens, wooded trails, and historical exhibits. The site has a rich history, serving as a home and stopping point for indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Archaeological digs have uncovered artifacts dating back to 8000 BCE, and the bluff shelter overlooking the spring is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Blue Spring also holds a somber place in history as a campsite on the Trail of Tears, a forced relocation of Cherokee people in the 1830s. Today, the Heritage Center offers a mile of well-maintained walking trails with interpretive signs detailing the area's natural, cultural, and historical significance. Visitors can explore the Medicine Wheel Garden, showcasing plants used by Native Americans for medicinal purposes, and the Woodland Garden, filled with wildflowers. The remains of an old mill, dating back to the 1840s, can also be seen on the grounds. The site is open from mid-March to early November.
