Big River Crossing (BRX) is more than just a bridge; it's an experience. Opened in October 2016, this iconic structure repurposed the historic Harahan Bridge, transforming it into a pedestrian and cyclist paradise. Stretching nearly a mile across the Mississippi, it links Main Street in Memphis with the Delta Regional River Park and the Big River Trail in West Memphis, Arkansas.Originally built in 1916 as the Harahan Bridge, it served as a vital railway link with roadways on either side. Over time, these roadways fell into disuse, but in 2016, they were reimagined as the Big River Crossing. Today, visitors can walk, bike, or run across the bridge, taking in the breathtaking views of the Memphis skyline, the Arkansas floodplains, and the mighty Mississippi River itself.Big River Crossing is part of a larger effort to revitalize the Mississippi Riverfront and connect communities on both sides of the river. It's a key component of the Main to Main connector project, which aims to create a 10-mile corridor linking attractions in Memphis and West Memphis. On the Arkansas side, the bridge connects to the Big River Trail, a 70-mile network of paths that wind through the Mississippi Delta.At night, the Big River Crossing comes alive with the Mighty Lights, a dazzling LED display that illuminates the bridge and the Hernando de Soto Bridge. These dynamic light shows, often themed for holidays and special events, add a touch of magic to the Memphis skyline. The bridge is monitored by security cameras and is well-lit at night.
