Discover more about Garvan Gardens

Garvan Woodland Gardens, a part of the University of Arkansas, is located on a peninsula with 4.5 miles of Lake Hamilton shoreline near Hot Springs, Arkansas. The gardens' story began in the 1920s when Arthur Cook purchased the land, later transforming it after the creation of Lake Hamilton. His daughter, Verna Cook Garvan, a self-taught gardener, developed the site beginning in 1956, with the vision of sharing Arkansas's natural beauty with the public. The gardens feature a diverse collection of flora, including rare shrubs and trees, camellias, magnolias, roses, and over 160 types of azaleas. Visitors can explore themed gardens like the Garden of the Pine Wind, a highly-ranked Japanese garden, and the Evans Children's Adventure Garden, which offers interactive fun with a waterfall and cave. The Sugg Model Train Garden reflects the Garvan family's history in the lumber and brick industries. Architectural marvels dot the landscape, including the stunning Anthony Chapel, a popular wedding venue known for its wood and glass construction that seamlessly blends with the surrounding forest. The Garvan Pavilion, designed by Fay Jones and Maurice Jennings, provides an open-air space for events and reflection. The Millsap Canopy Bridge offers a unique perspective of the forest, while the Bob and Sunny Evans Tree House provides an interactive space for children and adults alike. With its blend of natural beauty and architectural design, Garvan Woodland Gardens offers a serene and inspiring experience for all.
