Discover more about Crater of Diamonds State Park

Crater of Diamonds State Park, nestled in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, is a truly unique destination. This 911-acre park is home to a 37.5-acre field where visitors can search for real diamonds and keep any gems they discover. The field is the eroded surface of a volcanic crater that, millions of years ago, brought diamonds and other minerals to the surface. The park's history dates back to 1906 when farmer John Huddleston found the first diamonds on his land, sparking a diamond rush. After several attempts at commercial mining, the land was purchased by the state of Arkansas in 1972 and established as a state park. Today, it remains the only diamond mine in the world open to the public. Visitors can explore the diamond field using various techniques, from surface searching to wet sifting. Over 40 types of rocks and minerals can be found in the park, including amethyst, jasper, garnet, and quartz. The Diamond Discovery Center offers exhibits and programs to help visitors identify their finds. Beyond diamond hunting, the park offers a range of activities, including hiking trails, a water park (seasonal), and a campground. The visitor center provides information about the park's history and geology.
