    Lakeport Plantation is located on Highway 142, approximately 2 miles from U.S. Highway 82. From U.S. 82, turn onto Arkansas Highway 142 and proceed for two miles. The entrance to Lakeport Plantation will be on your left. Note: Some GPS systems may incorrectly direct you to use the levee road; stay on Highway 142 for the best paved access. There is no fee for parking at the plantation.

Lakeport Plantation, located near Lake Village, Arkansas, offers a unique glimpse into the history of the Mississippi Delta. Established in 1831 by Joel Johnson, the plantation grew to become a significant cotton producer, relying heavily on the labor of enslaved people. The grand, Greek Revival-style mansion, built in 1859 by Johnson's son Lycurgus, stands as a testament to the wealth and power of the antebellum South. Today, Lakeport Plantation is a heritage site museum operated by Arkansas State University. Following a meticulous restoration, the plantation now features award-winning exhibits that explore the lives and relationships of all who lived and worked here, from the Johnson family and enslaved laborers to tenant farmers and landowners. Visitors can take guided tours of the mansion, stroll through the grounds, and learn about the complex history of the Arkansas Delta. The tour includes thirteen restored fireplaces, original family artifacts, and salvaged artifacts found during the restoration. It also serves as an official interpretive center along the Great River Road, a drivable path connecting Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
