Discover more about War Eagle Mill

War Eagle Mill stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Ozark Mountains. Founded in 1832 by Sylvanus and Catherine Blackburn, the original mill served as a vital hub for the local community. Over the years, the mill faced numerous challenges, including floods, fires, and the turmoil of the Civil War, being destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current mill, reconstructed in 1973, is a faithful reproduction of the 1872 Blackburn family mill, powered by an impressive undershot water wheel. Visitors to War Eagle Mill can witness the traditional milling process firsthand, as the mill continues to produce organic flours, cornmeal, and other grain products. The on-site general store offers a variety of these freshly milled products, along with locally sourced honey, jams, and other artisanal goods. The Blackburn Cafe, located on the third floor of the mill (accessible by stairs only), serves up hearty, home-style meals made with the mill's own products, with specialties like beans and cornbread and seasonal cobblers. Beyond the mill itself, the surrounding area offers a wealth of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The War Eagle Bridge, a historic single-lane Parker truss bridge built in 1907, provides a scenic entry point to the mill and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. War Eagle Creek invites visitors to cool off by wading in the water or trying their luck at fishing. Nearby attractions include War Eagle Cavern and Hobbs State Park, offering opportunities for hiking, exploring, and enjoying the natural splendor of the Ozark region. Throughout the year, War Eagle Mill hosts a variety of events, including an annual craft fair in October that draws artisans and visitors from across the country. Whether you're interested in history, local crafts, or simply a peaceful escape into nature, War Eagle Mill offers a memorable experience for all.
