Burns Park, one of the largest city-owned parks in the United States, is a true gem of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Spanning 1,700 acres, this expansive green space offers a diverse array of activities and attractions, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The park's history dates back to the early 20th century when the U.S. government acquired the land for use as a military training camp known as Camp Pike. During World War I and World War II, the camp served as a training facility and prisoner of war camp. After the war, the land was declared surplus, and a local doctor, William Burns, spearheaded an effort to purchase the land and transform it into a public park. In 1950, the park was named in his honor.
