    Discover more about MacArthur Park

MacArthur Park, a verdant 36-acre space in downtown Little Rock, stands as a testament to the city's rich history and commitment to public recreation. Established in 1892, the park's origins trace back to the 1830s when it served as a horse racetrack before becoming the Little Rock Arsenal in 1836. The arsenal played a significant role in the state's early history, even being surrendered to the State of Arkansas during the Civil War. Following its decommissioning as a military post in 1890, the site was designated as a public park. Landscape engineer J.H. Pittman redesigned the property, adding features like a bandstand and a lake. In 1942, the park was renamed MacArthur Park to honor General Douglas MacArthur, who was born at the arsenal. Today, MacArthur Park is home to several attractions, including the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, housed in the historic Tower Building, and the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. Visitors can explore the park's walking paths, contemplation gardens, and memorials, such as the Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial. The park also features a fishing pond, bocce court and even a dog park. With its blend of history, culture, and recreational amenities, MacArthur Park offers a unique experience for locals and tourists alike.
