Discover more about USS Razorback

The USS Razorback (SS-394), a Balao-class submarine, resides at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum (AIMM) in North Little Rock, Arkansas. This submarine offers a unique glimpse into naval history, having served in the U.S. Navy and later in the Turkish Navy. The Razorback's keel was laid down on September 9, 1943, and it was commissioned on April 3, 1944. It earned five battle stars for World War II service and four campaign stars for Vietnam War service. Notably, the USS Razorback was present in Tokyo Bay during the formal surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945. Decommissioned by the U.S. Navy on November 30, 1970, it was transferred to Turkey and renamed TCG Muratreis (S 336). In 2004, the City of North Little Rock acquired the submarine, and it became a museum ship, opening to the public on May 15, 2005. Visitors can explore the vessel, experiencing the living and working conditions of submariners. The Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum also features the tugboat USS Hoga, which served during the Pearl Harbor attack, making it the only place in the world where you can see two floating Naval vessels that bookend World War II. The museum also displays exhibits about the battleship USS Arkansas (BB-33) and the missile cruiser USS Arkansas (CGN-41).
