History of Sherwood

Indigenous Landscapes and Early Settlement

The land around present-day Sherwood formed part of the larger central Arkansas landscape used by Indigenous peoples long before the modern city emerged. The area lies within Pulaski County, a region shaped by the rivers, wetlands and gently elevated ridges of the Arkansas River valley. During the nineteenth century, European-American settlement spread through the county, and rural communities developed around farms, roads and small local institutions. The Gravel Ridge Community
