Discover more about St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm

The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm offers a fascinating glimpse into the Early Jurassic period, roughly 200 million years ago. What began as a land-leveling project in 2000 by Dr. Sheldon Johnson, a local optometrist, soon turned into a paleontological goldmine when he unearthed a sandstone layer containing remarkably well-preserved dinosaur footprints. The museum houses thousands of these fossilized footprints, along with fossil fish, plants, and rare dinosaur remains. The site is considered one of the best dinosaur track sites in the world, offering unprecedented clarity in reconstructing the ancient ecosystem of Lake Dixie, a freshwater oasis that once attracted dinosaurs to its shores. Visitors can explore the indoor exhibits, which feature interactive displays, real dinosaur tracks, and life-size dinosaur models. See the dinosaur swim marks, which helped prove that dinosaurs did swim. The museum also has an activity room where kids can make dinosaur rubbings, trace dinosaurs, and examine dinosaur teeth. Outside, there is a Dino Park with a shaded picnic area, a sandbox for kids to brush off fossils, and a place to make your own dinosaur tracks.
