Driving

If driving from downtown Hot Springs, head north on Central Avenue. Turn left onto Hot Springs Mountain Drive and follow it to 401 Hot Springs Mountain Drive. There is free parking available at the tower.

Hot Springs Mountain Tower stands as a remarkable vantage point, offering visitors a panoramic view of the picturesque Ouachita Mountains and the vibrant city of Hot Springs. The tower itself is an architectural gem, constructed in the 1980s to replace an earlier structure, and has since become a symbol of the area.The current Hot Springs Mountain Tower is the third to occupy the site. In 1877, local mill owner Enoch Woolman built a wooden observation tower to allow visitors to enjoy the view. This original tower was destroyed by lightning sometime between 1885 and 1895. In 1906, a new steel tower, called Rix Tower, was erected by Charles N. Rix, president of Arkansas National Bank. The Rix Tower stood until 1971 when it was deemed unsafe and dismantled. The current 216-foot tower opened on June 3, 1983.Visitors can ascend the tower via an elevator or a hike to the top, where they are rewarded with spectacular views that stretch for miles. The upper observation deck is open-air and sits at 1,256 feet above sea level, offering views of up to 140 square miles of surrounding countryside. The lower observation deck is enclosed and air-conditioned and contains exhibits highlighting park and local history. A gift shop is located at the base of the tower.
