Discover more about Mammoth Spring State Park

Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, Mammoth Spring State Park is a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical significance. The park's centerpiece, Mammoth Spring, is the largest spring in Arkansas and one of the largest in the world, a National Natural Landmark that pours out approximately nine million gallons of water every hour. This incredible volume of water creates a 10-acre lake before flowing south to form the Spring River, a popular destination for fishing and canoeing. Visitors can explore the park's diverse attractions, including the fully restored 1886 Frisco train depot, which now serves as a museum. The depot showcases the impact of the railway on the area, complete with life-size figures depicting train crew, station workers, and passengers from the early 1900s. A vintage Frisco caboose sits nearby, offering a glimpse into railway history. The park also preserves remnants of its industrial past, including a historic mill and hydroelectric plant. The Spring River was dammed in 1887 to power a flour mill, cotton mill, and cotton gin. Later, in 1925, the Arkansas-Missouri Power Company built a hydroelectric plant that operated until 1972. Visitors can still tour the old power plant and walk across the milldam. Today, Mammoth Spring State Park offers a variety of recreational activities. These include fishing, boating, hiking, and picnicking. The park also features a welcome center, gift shop, playground, and baseball field.
