Lake Chicot State Park, located near Lake Village in southeastern Arkansas, centers around Lake Chicot, a 20-mile-long oxbow lake formed centuries ago by the Mississippi River. As the state's largest natural lake and North America's largest oxbow lake, Lake Chicot offers a unique bayou-like environment with large cypress trees, making it a haven for both wildlife and visitors.Originally, the lake's pure waters were used untreated by Lake Village. However, floods and river levee construction in the early 20th century led to pollution. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) took action to preserve the lake, leading to the creation of Lake Chicot State Park in 1957.
