Discover more about Alex and Marie Manoogian Treasury House - Museum

The Alex and Marie Manoogian Treasury House, located in Vagharshapat, is a museum showcasing the Armenian Apostolic Church's rich collection of treasures. Opened on October 11, 1982, the museum is named in honor of Alex and Marie Manoogian, American-Armenian philanthropists who donated funds for its construction. Designed by architect Baghdasar Arzumanyan, the building itself is an example of modern Armenian architecture, incorporating features of classical Armenian design. The museum's collection includes ecclesiastical items and works of applied art, such as bowls, altar curtains, relics, vestments, torches, crosses, ancient Armenian carpets, ceramic vessels, and wood carvings. A notable part of the collection is a series of paintings depicting the Holy Mother of God, created by Armenian artists throughout Armenian history. Among the sacred treasures are the Holy Lance of Geghard, a relic from Noah's Ark, and a fragment of the Cross of Jesus Christ. The exhibits have been brought to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin from Armenian communities across a wide geographical area, demonstrating the skill and artistic taste of Armenian craftsmen over the centuries. In 2018, due to construction at the main cathedral, many exhibits were temporarily moved to the Treasury House, including the Holy Lance of Geghard, a relic from Noah's Ark, and the reliquary with the Holy Sign from Khotakerats. The museum not only displays the treasures but also serves as a temporary building for the Karekin I Library. A separate room displays gifts given to the Armenian Church by guests and Armenian believers from around the world.
