Voskevaz Winery, located in the village of Voskevaz in the Aragatsotn region, stands as a testament to Armenia's enduring winemaking heritage. The name "Voskevaz" translates to "golden bunch" in Armenian, reflecting the winery's commitment to crafting high-quality wines. Established in 1932, it is considered the oldest operating winery in Armenia.Initially, the winery focused on producing fortified wines and gained recognition as one of the best in Soviet Armenia. However, it fell into disrepair in the 1990s after Armenia gained independence. In 2004, Armenian entrepreneur David Hovhannisyan revitalized the winery, with his brothers joining him to restore it to its former glory.Voskevaz embraces both traditional and modern winemaking techniques. They are known for reviving the ancient Armenian tradition of using karases, large clay amphorae, for fermenting and aging wines. The winery works with indigenous grape varieties such as Areni, Voskehat and Haghtanak, some of which are unique to Armenia. Visitors can explore the winery's cellars, learn about the winemaking process, and taste a variety of wines. The winery also aims to promote ecotourism to the region.
