Discover more about Alex and Marie Manoogian Treasury House - Museum

The Alex and Marie Manoogian Treasury House - Museum, located in the heart of Vagharshapat, serves as a treasure trove of Armenian history and artistry. Opened on October 11, 1982, and designed by architect Baghdasar Arzumanyan, the museum is named in honor of American-Armenian philanthropists Alex and Marie Manoogian. The museum's collection includes ecclesiastical items and applied art, such as bowls, altar curtains, relics, vestments, torches, crosses, ancient Armenian carpets, ceramic vessels, and wood carvings. A series of paintings depicting the Holy Mother of God, created by Armenian artists across different periods of Armenian history, is a notable feature. Among the most precious exhibits are handwritten records and manuscripts with unique miniature illustrations and silver ornamented covers. In 2018, due to construction at the main cathedral, many exhibits were transferred to the Treasury House. These include the Holy Lance of Geghard (the spear that pierced Christ), a relic from Noah's Ark, and the reliquary with the Holy Sign from Khotakerats, containing a fragment of the Cross of Jesus Christ. The museum aims to showcase the intricate craftsmanship and cultural richness that has defined the region for centuries.
