Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Yerevan, take a marshrutka (minibus) from Kilikia Bus Station to Sisian. The journey takes approximately 5 hours and costs between $8 and $17. From Sisian, take a taxi or another marshrutka towards Shaki Waterfall. A marshrutka from Sisian to Shaki costs around 500 AMD. Alternatively, a taxi from Sisian to the waterfall will cost more.

  • Car

    From Sisian Petroglyphs, head west on the main road (M2) towards Shaki. Continue on M2 for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the sign for Shaki Waterfall. Turn left at the sign and follow the road for another 5 kilometers. Parking is generally free.

Shaki Waterfall is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Armenia, situated in the Syunik region. Located a few kilometers from Sisian, the waterfall is formed by the Shaki River as it plunges into the Vorotan Gorge from a height of 18 meters. The story tells of Shake, who, to avoid capture by invaders, threw herself from a cliff; her dress transformed into the waterfall. Another version says that Shaki and other young Armenian women jumped into the Vorotan River to escape Arab slave traders. Shaki tried to escape but a rock rose from the river to hide her, and in honor of this miraculous rescue, the waterfall and nearby village were named Shaki. The area around Shaki Waterfall has traces of ancient civilizations, with rock niches and grottoes dotting the landscape. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking scenery and peaceful surroundings, making it an ideal day trip to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
