The Dilijan Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery offers visitors a captivating journey through the region's history, culture, and art. Founded in 1950, the museum's collection began in the town library with artifacts collected by art historian Serik Davtyan. The art gallery was established in 1958. Today, the museum provides a comprehensive view of the history of the Dilijan region, the historical development of the local people, their way of life, material culture monuments, and historical and geographical conditions. The museum is divided into two main sections: local lore and art. The Local Lore Museum showcases artifacts from the late Eneolithic era to the 19th century, including jewelry, household items, and examples of Armenian carpet weaving and pottery. The Art Gallery features works by Armenian and foreign artists, including paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky, Gevorg Bashinjaghian, and Rockwell Kent. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and workshops. The museum is housed in a building with its own interesting past. Originally built in 1926 as a hotel, it later served as a hospital before becoming the Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery in 1967. The current building was constructed in 2010, with the official opening on April 1, 2011.
