Lastiver Cave, located in the Tavush region of Armenia near the village of Yenokavan, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Situated in the lush Khachaghbyur River valley, the area is characterized by dense forests, dramatic cliffs, and the soothing sounds of waterfalls. The cave itself is part of a complex that includes other caves, ancient ruins, and a 12th-13th century chapel. Historically, Lastiver provided refuge for locals during the Mongol invasions of the 13th and 14th centuries. To reach the cave, villagers constructed log staircases resembling rafts, inspiring the name "Lastiver," which means "up to the raft" in Armenian. Adding to the cave's allure are the bas-reliefs and sculptures carved into its walls. Created in the 1970s by Soviet-Armenian sculptor Benik Petrosyan, these carvings are often mistaken for ancient works, enhancing the cave's mystique. The area is ideal for hiking, ecotourism, and extreme sports, attracting both locals and tourists. The surrounding forests are home to diverse wildlife, and a tent camp near the river offers accommodations for visitors.
