Hin Areni Winery: A Taste of Armenian Heritage

Hin Areni Winery, established in 2013 by the Karapetyan family, stands as a testament to Armenia's enduring winemaking heritage. Located in the village of Areni, in the Vayots Dzor region, this winery combines modern technology with time-honored techniques to craft exceptional wines from indigenous grapes. Areni village is known as the cradle of Armenian winemaking, with a history stretching back millennia. Archaeological discoveries in the nearby Areni-1 cave, including a 6,100-year-old winery, confirm the region's pivotal role in the development of wine. The winery is dedicated to showcasing the unique characteristics of Armenian grape varieties, particularly the Areni Noir, ensuring that the beauty and quality of Armenian wines are celebrated. Wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in oak barrels sourced from the fertile hills of Artsakh. The tasting room provides an opportunity to sample a range of wines, including single-varietal wines made exclusively from Areni Noir and Voskehat grapes. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 1215–1250 meters, benefiting from the region's sedimentary and volcanic soils.
