Discover more about Spandarian Reservoir

Spandarian Reservoir, located in the Syunik Province, is one of Armenia's most picturesque reservoirs. Formed in 1980 by damming the Vorotan River between Jermuk and Goris, it stands as the second-largest reservoir in Armenia by volume. The reservoir not only contributes significantly to the region's sustainable energy through the Spandarian Hydro Power Plant but also offers stunning views and recreational opportunities. The reservoir's location provides an intimate connection with nature, far from typical tourist crowds. The surrounding mountains and forests create a serene environment, perfect for fishing and picnics. The reservoir is 7 kilometers long, and 2.5 to 3 kilometers wide, with a depth of 73 meters. While offering a tranquil escape, the reservoir also plays a crucial role in Armenia's energy sector. The Spandaryan Hydro Power Plant, commissioned in 1989, has an installed capacity of 76 MW and an annual electricity generation of 210 GWh. This power plant is part of the Vorotan Cascade, a series of hydroelectric plants that contribute significantly to Armenia's power supply.
