Torq Angegh, a compelling monument sculpted by Karlen Nuridjanyan in 1982, resides on a hill in Yerevan's Nor Nork district. This monument pays homage to Torq Angegh, a deity of strength, courage, manufacturing, and the arts in Armenian mythology. According to Movses Khorenatsi, a prominent Armenian historian from the 5th century, Torq was the great-grandson of Hayk, the patriarch of the Armenian people. He was known as 'Angegh' (meaning 'ugly') due to his unattractive appearance, but possessed immense strength. Legend says he could split rocks, carve them with his nails, and hurl massive boulders at enemy ships. The sculpture itself, made of forged copper, stands 4.8 meters tall and portrays Torq with a rock raised above his head, ready to strike. The statue embodies strength and masculinity, capturing the heroic essence of the mythological figure. There were once plans to create an artificial lake nearby to symbolize the Pontic Sea, but the project was never realized.
