Car
From Goris, take the M2 highway heading south towards the border with Iran. After approximately 15 km, turn right onto the Ughtasar Road (look for signs directing you towards Ughtasar Lake). Continue on this road for about 10 km until you reach the parking area near the foot of Ughtasar Mountain. From here, a hiking trail leads directly to the Ughtassar Petroglyphs, which are situated at the lake itself.
Public Transportation
Begin your journey in Goris. Take a marshrutka (minibus) heading towards the town of Kapan. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the Ughtasar turn-off. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Once you alight, you will need to walk approximately 10 km along the Ughtasar Road to reach the parking area. From there, follow the hiking trail to the Ughtassar Petroglyphs. Be prepared for a bit of a trek, as the area can be rugged.
Hiking
If you prefer to hike from the parking area, the trail to the Ughtassar Petroglyphs is approximately 3 km and can take around 1-2 hours depending on your pace. The path is moderately steep and may require good footwear and physical fitness. Make sure to bring water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the way.
Use Ughtassar Petroglyphs as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
