Khor Virap Monastery, meaning 'deep dungeon,' is a significant religious site in Armenia, near the village of Pokr Vedi. It is known for its historical importance as the place where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 13 years before converting King Tiridates III to Christianity, which led Armenia to become the first Christian nation in 301 AD. The monastery offers stunning views of Mount Ararat and is a popular pilgrimage destination.

Public Transport
From Yerevan, take the metro to Sasuntsi Davit station, where you'll find the Intertown Bus Station. Look for a marshrutka (minibus) with a sign indicating 'Ararat'. The bus ride to the village of Pokr Vedi or Artashat costs approximately 500 AMD. From the bus stop in Pokr Vedi, it's about a 4 km walk to Khor Virap, or you can take a taxi for an additional fee. Alternatively, bus #467 goes directly to Khor Virap three times a day (9:00, 14:00, and 18:00) for 500 AMD.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Yerevan and can take you directly to Khor Virap Monastery. The journey takes around 40-60 minutes, depending on traffic. A one-way taxi ride from Yerevan to Khor Virap typically costs between 4,500 to 6,000 AMD. Be sure to negotiate the fare with the driver before starting your journey.
Driving
From Yerevan, head south on the E117 highway for approximately 30 kilometers. Then, take the H11 road directly to Khor Virap Monastery. The drive takes about 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic. Parking is available near the monastery. Note that parking may be limited during peak tourist season. There are no tolls on this route.
