If you're driving, start from the center of Ijevan, the capital of Tavush. Head southwest on A1 road towards Haghartsin Monastery. After approximately 6 kilometers, take the exit for the Makaravank Monastery Complex. Follow the signs for Makaravank, and after about 3 kilometers, you'll arrive at the parking area near the monastery. Be aware that the last stretch of road may be unpaved and bumpy, so drive carefully.

From Ijevan, you can take a minibus (marshrutka) heading towards the town of Dilijan. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest point to Makaravank Monastery. This usually takes about 30 minutes and costs around 500 AMD. Once dropped off, you may need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers uphill to reach the monastery complex. Ensure that you are aware of the return schedule of the marshrutka as they may not run frequently.
