Lake Gosh: A Tranquil Jewel in Dilijan National Park

Lake Gosh, a hidden gem in Armenia's Tavush Province, offers visitors a tranquil escape into nature. Located 2.2 km southwest of Gosh village, within Dilijan National Park, this small mountain lake is surrounded by dense forests of oak, beech, and pine trees, creating a picturesque and serene environment. Formed by landslides, the lake stretches 100 meters in length and 80 meters in width, with a maximum depth of 8 meters. Fed by underground springs and precipitation, the water remains a cool 14°C even in summer. The lake is known for its diverse flora and fauna, including frogs, crayfish, and small fish. Named after Mkhitar Gosh, a prominent 12th-century Armenian scholar, statesman, and priest, the lake shares its name with the nearby Goshavank Monastery, which he founded. Mkhitar Gosh was a significant figure in medieval Armenia, contributing to law, education, and culture. The Goshavank Monastery, a short distance from the lake, is a must-see historical site, showcasing impressive Armenian architecture and khachkars (cross-stones). Today, Lake Gosh is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and jeeping tours.
