The square is renowned for its harmonious architectural ensemble, comprised of five significant buildings constructed from pink and yellow tuff stones in neoclassical style with Armenian motifs. These buildings include the Government House, the History Museum and National Gallery, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Central Post Office, and the Armenia Marriott Hotel. The square consists of two main sections: an oval roundabout adorned with a stone mosaic resembling a traditional Armenian rug, and a trapezoid-shaped area featuring musical fountains. The singing fountains, renovated in 2007, operate from late spring to late fall, offering captivating light and music shows in the evenings. The fountain shows typically begin at 9 PM or 10 PM and last until 11 PM, featuring a mix of classical, jazz, pop, and rock music. Formerly known as Lenin Square during the Soviet era, the square once featured a statue of Vladimir Lenin. After Armenia's independence, the statue was removed, and the square was renamed Republic Square. Today, it serves as a focal point for major state concerts, cultural events, and everyday Yerevan life.
