Goshavank Monastery: A Medieval Armenian Marvel

Goshavank Monastery, meaning "Monastery of Gosh," is a remarkable Armenian monastic complex dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Located in the village of Gosh in the Tavush Province of Armenia, it stands as a testament to the country's rich spiritual and cultural heritage. The monastery was erected on the site of an older monastery, Nor Getik, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1188. Mkhitar Gosh, a prominent scholar, jurist, and author, played a crucial role in rebuilding the monastery, which was later named in his honor.Goshavank served not only as a religious center but also as a hub of education, science, and culture in medieval Armenia. Mkhitar Gosh founded a school within the monastery, attracting scholars, artists, and scribes.
