    Discover more about Devil’s Bridge

Devil's Bridge (Satani Kamurj) is a captivating natural wonder located in the Vorotan River canyon, not far from the Tatev Monastery in the Syunik region of Armenia. This extraordinary bridge has been formed naturally over centuries, thanks to the persistent work of the Vorotan River and mineral springs. The bridge is made of travertine, a type of limestone created by mineral spring deposits, and stretches approximately 30 meters in length and 50-60 meters in width. Local legend says that the bridge was built by the devil, adding an intriguing layer to its allure. The name “Devil’s Bridge” (Satani Kamurj) comes from the Armenian words “satana” (devil) and “kamurj” (bridge). Some believe the name arose from the mysterious way the Vorotan River seems to disappear and reappear, flowing both above and below the bridge. Others suggest the name is linked to the many who drowned while swimming under the bridge. Visitors can explore the area, swim in the warm, mineral-rich springs, and venture into caves adorned with stalactites. The mineral waters have painted the rocks of the canyon in vibrant shades of pink, yellow, and green. The location of the bridge was also strategically important during the liberation struggle in Syunik, led by Garegin Nzhdeh. Today, a highway from Goris to Tatev passes over the bridge, making it easily accessible for tourists.
