To reach Vayots Sar via public transport, begin by taking a marshrutka (minibus) or bus from Yerevan to Yeghegnadzor. These depart from Yerevan's Kilikia bus station approximately five times a day, with a journey time of around 3 hours and costing between $5-8. Upon arrival in Yeghegnadzor, hire a taxi to take you directly to Vayots Sar. This should cost approximately 1,500-2,000 AMD (~$4-5 USD). Negotiate the fare in advance.

If driving, start from Yeghegnadzor, the administrative center of Vayots Dzor Region. Head southeast on the M2 highway towards the village of Vayk. After about 12 km, take the exit onto the A1 road heading towards the village of Arpa. Continue on this road for approximately 18 km until you see signs for Vayots Sar. Follow the signs and take the dirt road that leads directly to Vayots Sar. Be sure to have a GPS or local map app, as the roads can be poorly marked.
