Yerevan History Museum: A Chronicle of the City

The Yerevan History Museum offers a captivating journey through the ages, revealing the story of Armenia's capital city from its ancient roots to its modern vibrancy. Founded in 1931, the museum initially occupied a modest space in the city's fire department. Over the years, it moved to different locations before finally settling in its current home within the Yerevan City Hall complex in 2005. The museum's collection comprises over 94,000 objects, encompassing archaeological finds, ethnographic materials, numismatic items, photographs, and documents. These artifacts offer insights into Yerevan's material and spiritual culture throughout history. Among the highlights are tools dating back 100,000 years found in the Yerevan Cave, items from the prehistoric settlement of Shengavit (3rd-4th millennia BCE), and objects from the Hellenistic period. Visitors can also explore exhibits on traditional crafts, daily life, and significant historical events. The museum's exhibits are divided into three thematic departments, each providing a unique perspective on Yerevan's past. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and collaborates with various organizations to promote Armenian history and culture.
