Located on the west coast of Aruba, near the high-rise hotel area, the Bubali Bird Sanctuary is a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike. Established in 1980, this protected area spans approximately 49 acres (20 hectares) and features interconnected man-made ponds, which were originally created as a wastewater treatment facility. These wetlands have since become a vital habitat for a diverse array of migratory and local bird species. The sanctuary is home to over 80 species of birds, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, ducks, and more. Birdwatchers can observe American coots, common moorhens, white-cheeked pintails, yellow warblers, burrowing owls, bananaquits, and ruby-topaz hummingbirds. The observation tower on the north side of the sanctuary provides an excellent vantage point for spotting these birds in their natural habitat. The surrounding vegetation also supports nesting species. Visitors can explore the sanctuary at any time, as there are no set hours. However, it's recommended to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the birds are most active. Admission is free, making it an accessible attraction for all.
