Discover more about Hooiberg

Hooiberg, meaning "haystack" in Dutch, is a 165-meter (541 feet) high volcanic formation located in the heart of Aruba. Though often mistaken as the island's highest point, it is actually the second tallest after Jamanota. Nevertheless, Hooiberg's central location and isolated prominence make it a defining landmark, even featured on Aruba's coat of arms. The mountain is made of a unique quartz diorite, named Hooibergiet, found only in Aruba. A well-maintained staircase with approximately 587 steps ascends to the summit, providing a challenging but manageable climb. Along the way, you'll find a gazebo offering a place to rest and enjoy the scenery. At the top, breathtaking 360-degree views await, showcasing Aruba's diverse landscape, from its coastline to the arid plains. On a clear day, it's even possible to see the coast of Venezuela. The summit also hosts radio and telecommunication antennas, essential for the island's infrastructure. Hooiberg is a popular spot for both tourists and locals seeking exercise, stunning views, and a connection with Aruba's natural beauty.
