Palm Beach is a two-mile stretch of pristine white sand on Aruba's northwest coast, approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) northwest of Oranjestad. Officially registered as a shoreline beach in 1960, its name is derived from a coconut plantation owned by R.J. (Capt) Beaujon, who named it after Palm Beach, Florida. The area has a rich history, with the first inhabitants being Caquetios Indians from the Arawak tribe around 100 A.D.. Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda discovered the island in 1499, establishing a small garrison. Palm Beach is now a bustling tourist district, home to many high-rise hotels, including the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino, Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, and the Ritz Carlton Resort.
