Established in 1980, this protected area offers a unique opportunity to observe both native and migratory birds in their natural habitat. Originally created as a wastewater treatment facility, the sanctuary has evolved into a lush oasis with interconnected man-made ponds. These ponds attract over 80 species of migratory birds, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, and ducks. The surrounding vegetation also provides nesting grounds for various species, adding to the sanctuary's biodiversity. The sanctuary features an observation tower on its north side, providing visitors with a bird's-eye view of the area. From this vantage point, birdwatchers can observe the diverse avian life and appreciate the serene beauty of the wetlands. The sanctuary is conveniently located within walking distance of the Palm Beach resorts and is easily accessible by car, bus, or taxi. While the sanctuary experienced a fire in 2018 that damaged a portion of the area, it has since recovered and continues to be an important habitat for birds. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes and bring insect repellent, as well as to visit during the early morning or late afternoon when the birds are most active.
