Discover more about Grotto of Lourdes Outdoor Chapel

Nestled in the rocky landscape of Seroe Preto, near San Nicolas, the Grotto of Lourdes is a unique Roman Catholic shrine built in 1958. The grotto was created under the guidance of a priest named Erkamp, with the help of local parishioners, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Virgin Mary's appearance to Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France. The grotto features a 700-kilogram statue of the Virgin Mary, carefully placed within the natural rock formations. The site serves as a place of prayer, reflection, and quiet contemplation, offering a peaceful escape from Aruba's bustling tourist areas. The design intentionally mirrors the original grotto in France. Every year on February 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, a religious procession takes place from St. Theresita Church in San Nicolas to the grotto, where a special mass is held. The grotto is open daily and welcomes visitors to admire its beauty, light a candle, and experience its spiritual atmosphere.
