Discover more about Palm Beach

Palm Beach, located on the northwest coast of Aruba, is a renowned two-mile stretch of pristine white sand and turquoise waters. Officially registered as a shoreline in 1960, its name is said to originate from a local coconut plantation owner who named it after Palm Beach, Florida. However, another account attributes the name to locals who planted palm trees along the beach in the early 20th century. Historically, the area was inhabited by Caquetio Indians from the Arawak tribe as early as 100 A.D. Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda arrived in 1499, followed by the Dutch in 1636, who controlled the island for many years, with brief interruptions. Tourism began to take hold in the mid-20th century, with the first tourist office opening in 1947 and the first hotel, Hotel Basi-Ruti, established in 1957. Today, Palm Beach is a bustling tourist center, featuring high-rise hotels, casinos, shopping malls like Paseo Herencia and Palm Beach Plaza Mall, and a wide array of restaurants and bars. The calm waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling, while the beach itself is ideal for sunbathing and walks. Water sports are abundant, and the nightlife is vibrant, with clubs and casinos offering entertainment into the late hours. Palm Beach strikes a balance between natural beauty and modern amenities, making it a quintessential Caribbean destination.
