Originally created as a wastewater treatment facility, the sanctuary has evolved into a lush habitat with interconnected man-made lakes. These lakes provide a resting and breeding area for over 80 species of migratory birds, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, and ducks. The surrounding vegetation also hosts nesting species such as yellow warblers, burrowing owls, and bananaquits. Visitors can observe the birds from an observation tower on the north side of the sanctuary, offering a bird's-eye view of the area. The sanctuary is conveniently located within walking distance of the Palm Beach resorts, making it an easily accessible escape into nature.
