Bubali Bird Sanctuary: A Tranquil Oasis for Birdwatchers

Located in Noord, Aruba, the Bubali Bird Sanctuary is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. This 20-hectare (49 acre) wetland area, identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, supports a wide variety of bird species, including threatened and restricted-range species. Originally created as a wastewater treatment facility, the sanctuary has evolved into a lush habitat with interconnected man-made lakes. These lakes provide a resting and breeding area for over 80 species of migratory birds, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, and ducks. The surrounding vegetation also hosts nesting species such as yellow warblers, burrowing owls, and bananaquits. Visitors can observe the birds from an observation tower on the north side of the sanctuary, offering a bird's-eye view of the area. The sanctuary is conveniently located within walking distance of the Palm Beach resorts, making it an easily accessible escape into nature. With no admission fees or set hours, it's an ideal spot for early-morning or late-afternoon visits.
