Discover more about Palm Beach

Palm Beach is a vibrant tourist district in Noord, Aruba, approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) northwest of Oranjestad. Officially registered as a shoreline beach in 1960, its name originates from a coconut plantation owned by R.J. (Capt) Beaujon, who named it after Palm Beach, Florida. The area was once inhabited by Caquetios Indians of the Arawak tribe around 100 A.D. Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda arrived in 1499, followed by Dutch colonization, which shaped Aruba's development. Palm Beach began its transformation into a tourist destination in 1947 with the opening of its first tourist office. The first hotel, Hotel Basi-Ruti, opened in 1957 featuring bungalow-style accommodations. In 1959, the Aruba Caribbean Hotel (now the Hilton) was built, marking the beginning of high-rise development. Today, Palm Beach is lined with hotels like the Hyatt Regency, Marriott, Barceló, and RIU Palace. The area boasts shopping malls such as Paseo Herencia and Palm Beach Plaza Mall, completed in 2009. Palm Beach offers a wide array of activities, including swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and water sports. A long sidewalk runs along the beach, ideal for strolls. After sunset, the area comes alive with clubs and casinos.
