Discover more about Sandy Creek Conservation Park

Sandy Creek Conservation Park, a 158-hectare protected area, offers a tranquil escape into nature on the southern fringe of the Barossa Valley. Established in 1965 after failed vineyard ventures, the park conserves some of the last remaining vegetation of the sandy soil lowlands in the region. The park's landscape features gently undulating sand dunes and occasional creeks, providing a habitat for diverse flora and fauna. Explore the native pine and pink gum woodlands via several walking trails, including the popular Wren Walk (3.5km) and the Boundary Walk (4km). Spring is the best time to visit, when wildflowers bloom in abundance, creating a colorful display. Sandy Creek Conservation Park is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 120 species recorded. Look out for superb fairy-wrens, western grey kangaroos, and diamond firetails. The park also holds historical significance, with remnants of early 20th-century settlement, including an old stone hut and abandoned vineyards. These areas now provide important habitats for various bird species. The park lies on the edge of the lands of the Permangk, Kaurna, and Ngadjuri people.
